Youth Skills Training (YST) program

Across Minnesota, the Youth Skills Training (YST) program, led by the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry, is creating lifechanging opportunities for high school students to gain hands on experience in real-world work environments. By connecting classroom learning with paid workplace training, YST helps students build confidence, develop practical skills, and explore career paths in high-demand industries like advanced manufacturing.

Coldspring’s commitment to student success is grounded in honesty and integrity. At the heart of this commitment are values that shape how we engage with students and the communities we serve. Through our partnership with
ROCORI Secondary Schools and the YST program, we are proud to help local students discover rewarding career options close to home.

“Giving students the opportunity to experience modern manufacturing firsthand is one of the most meaningful ways we can invest in our future workforce,” says Greg Flint, President of Coldspring. “It opens their eyes to the variety of careers available and shows them there’s a future for them right here in their own community.”

To ensure a positive experience for students, Coldspring worked closely with ROCORI Secondary Schools and welcomed representatives from the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry for a full tour of our facility. Together, we reviewed equipment, discussed modifications needed to safely accommodate student learners, and aligned on safety protocols tailored to student involvement. This close collaboration ensures that students from ROCORI have access to meaningful hands-on experiences in a safe, supportive environment guided by experienced mentors.

Beyond technical training, YST equips students with professional skills like teamwork, communication, and accountability. Students also have the chance to earn industry-recognized credentials and gain early exposure to careers they may have never considered.

Coldspring is honored to be part of this collaborative effort, helping to build confidence and opportunity for students while supporting workforce development in our community. We look forward to continuing this important partnership through student tours, career fairs, and workplace learning experiences.

For other companies interested in supporting local students, the Minnesota Youth Skills Training program makes it easy to get involved. Businesses can partner with area high schools to offer safe, meaningful workplace experiences for students in industries like advanced manufacturing, health care, automotive, and more. Information on becoming a partner is available through the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry at www.dli.mn.gov/yst.
